Our company developed technical and technological solutions for a functional and efficient municipal waste transfer station, with a focus on improving waste handling systems and rationalizing transport.

The station is designed to use a hydraulic press-container system for waste compaction. Waste is tipped directly from collection trucks into a rising press hopper inside the main hall, then compacted and transferred into 32 m³ Abroll containers. A single transport trip can carry up to two containers (a total of 64 m³ of compacted waste, or approximately 37 tons), significantly reducing the number of annual transport trips — from around 2,080 to between 676 and 893, depending on the level of compaction.

The project included:

-Defining the waste transfer and compaction technology, with appropriate mechanization and container systems;
-Proposing technical solutions for the daily operation of the station, including waste management, drainage, and other supporting processes;
-Designing all necessary installations and auxiliary structures.

All solutions comply with Montenegrin legislation and EU standards, including technical guidelines for transfer stations and EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) recommendations, which justify the construction of a transfer station when waste is transported over 40 km — which is the case in Nikšić (approximately 62 km to the landfill in Podgorica).

The Nikšić Transfer Station is designed as a temporary but functional and sustainable solution until the planned regional recycling center is established, ensuring an efficient and safe municipal waste management system for the entire municipality.
